The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise the funds for a replacement vehicle for April Reed and her mother who lives with her.

Fall 2024, my Kia Soul, my sole means of transportation, was hit by an SUV in a car accident and was declared a total loss. Due to complications related to the accident, I had to leave my salaried position as a School Counselor and therefore lost out on a significant amount of pay for not completing the 2nd semester of the school year. In addition, the other party had minimal insurance coverage; what was recovered was only enough to pay my lienholder for my previous car and have very little leftover. I am in great need of financial assistance to help me to reach my goal of purchasing another reliable vehicle.

In recent months, I have had to rely on Lyft, taxis, and the Lafayette Transit System, the latter of which is dangerous due to the great distance of the nearest bus stop to my residence and close proximity to a major highway, Interstate 49.

Being without a vehicle has not only taken a toll on me, but also on my mother. She is over 70 years old and does not drive. I usually bring her to the places in which she needs to get to, including doctor's appointments. It would help tremendously to be able to have transportation again not just for my needs, but for hers, too.

I am asking for donations of any amount to restore normalcy and to help me able to continue to be a change agent in the field of education and in the community. I will pay it forward by going the extra mile to help those needing support, as I always did prior to my accident.
