Help Rebuild Our Church: A Closer Walk Meeting the Need Ministry - A Sacred Landmark in St. Bernard Parish

We are reaching out to you today with a special request to help us restore a treasured part of our history. After Hurricane Katrina, A Closer Walk Meeting the Need Ministry purchased the former Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Violet, LA. The church was built in St. Bernard Parish in the early 1900s and has stood as a beacon of faith and hope for generations. It is one of the oldest churches in our community and has been a place where countless families have found solace, guidance, and connection. However, the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina left the church in ruins, and since then, we have struggled to bring it back to life.

Under the leadership of Pastor Berridel J. Johnson, A Closer Walk Meeting the Need Ministry has been working tirelessly to rebuild and restore this beloved house of worship. While we have made progress—raising funds for a new roof—the journey is far from over. The church remains in need of extensive repairs, including structural restoration, electrical work, and the rebuilding of interior spaces to ensure that it can once again serve as a gathering place for worship and community events.
