On October 30th my Mom, Angela Nichols, suffered a brain stem stroke alone in her home in Florida. She was rushed to St. Joseph Hospital where she remained in the ICU until around Thanksgiving. She was then moved to a long-term care facility in Tampa. The care was subpar, and this is where we collectively panicked. My mom’s recovery was stagnant at that point and had little motivation to move forward..

We decided to then transfer her to Land O' Lakes, where she remained for about a month. Here she was provided with the high-quality care that she deserves (nurse staff, PT, OT, speech therapy, case management, the list goes on). Their professional team has been fluid with communication on all levels of care. Unfortunately, she was only able to stay at this location for about a month and our family had to make a decision against our will to keep her in Florida. Those who have experienced the hardships of working with healthcare understand it's not simple getting her to NY. We have been working with her insurance and case managers to find facilities up North that take her level of care. This is where we need your help. The cost to move my Mom is estimated around $10,000, this is subject to change as she changes facilities due to their connections with transport services. My family is asking for your help to help bring her to her loved ones in NY/MA.

Over the weekend my Mom was rushed to the hospital due to her fighting an infection and her new facility unable to stabilize her. Her blood pressure went through the roof and she is currently fighting off a fever from pneumonia. She is being held at Tampa General Hospital-Brooksville. We have been blessed with a case manager who is willing to work with us in transporting her back home- FINALLY. Advocating for my Mom is a fight my family won't back down on. She deserves to be surrounded by the ones who love her most. This is where the healing process will truly begin; alongside those who love her and know her best. Who can continue to advocate for her, but at a closer distance. We are here to further her progress and continue to make strides in her recovery- and boy is she a fighter!

Medical update:

Unfortunately, there is no movement on her right side. She continues to respond to commands by moving her left hand/foot, blinking, and eye movements. Physical therapy is working with her to strengthen her muscles to shake her head yes and no- and she has had success! Speech therapy was able to have her make sounds within the last month but with her transport, she hasn't had the chance to further her progress. She is fully aware and expresses emotion through smiles, cries and laughs.

UPDATE, 2/12/24

With a heavy heart, I’d like to share with all of you that my Mom, Angela Nichols, peacefully passed away on February 9th alongside her family. My Mom was a woman with a strong heart, a contagious laugh and endless memories to share. She overcame hardships that could break an individual down.. yet she persevered. My mom taught me how to hold strong when life was thrown at you, to not get bitter from challenging experiences and to remain open hearted. These are lessons that I will carry with me until eternity. Our family has gained the most precious guardian angel.

I want to thank everyone again for your compassion and support throughout the last few months. In unity, we were able to raise funds that will now go towards mom’s services. I’m forever grateful

Services are still being arranged but will be in my mama’s old stomping grounds… Foxboro, MA. We plan to have an intimiate service and will update our close friends and family on the details.
