Miguel Tlatenchi was one of the many truck drivers picked up in an operation throughout the state of Oklahoma targeting Immigrant truck drivers picking up over 75 workers the last few days of October 2025. His family presumed him missing after being no contact and being located at a truck weigh station for more than 28 hours. After searching for his father on the ICE.Gov website they were able to see that he was picked up and was in the processing stages. After many days of trying to locate Miguel he was able to make a call to his family after almost 5 days.
Within those few days the ICE.Gov website uploaded an article boasting their achievements of “making the state highways safer” by picking up criminals who got their CDL license illegally someway. Miguel in this case, did not, he spent years studying and taking those exams needed to obtain the license. There is physical proof for everything. The article thumbnail held Miguels license/ID information putting not only his family name but community who is already facing attacks from heavy ICE raids happening throughout the San Fernando Valley. His family believes that this propaganda is released to make the immigrants cases more difficult for trail. Miguel is not the only victim to these said articles. ICE.gov releases daily news articles on multiple operations about actual criminals with DV history, running from crimes in their home country, identiity fraud, etc. Miguel only carries two DUI cases from the 90s in his name. Cases in which have already been closed. Miguel’s Family resides in California all while Miguel has been held since 2025 in the Rio Grande Processing center ran by the GEO Group in TX. His wife struggling to meet ends meet, has to deal with caring for a father with a strong case of Parkinson's disease. All while Miguel was her provider, providing financial stability… emotional support… using his work experience to care for their house all while he was dealing with personal issues attending and sponsoring many AA programs throughout Los Angeles. His family is in the final stages of hearing updates from the court to see if he will get a hearing soon. His first round of hearings went as expected from his family. They gathered all the evidence that the judge was requesting, character witnesses, letters from City District representatives, all ready to speak on the positive impact Miguel leaves on everyone he encounters. Everything was thrown off when he wasn’t picked up for his final scheduled hearing. Everyone being awake at 5AM via video calls. His family looked into updates on his case via the eoir.justice.gov website. Updated to order of REMOVAL for deportation. The judge had made the decision days prior to Miguel actually having an actual hearing with an audience of the court. Miguel on the other hand has not used this experience to burn his light. From within the walls of the facility Miguel uses his life experience to help other immigrants keep their spirits high through prayer groups and using his stories of AA from the past three decades to show them that with one day at a time, you can get through the darkness. He helps others get in contact with family members using the help of his wife and sons to locate them or giving updates if they were either picked up and deported overnight. He also helps sending money for their families so they can buy something at commissary. With these past 6 months of him being held inside he has seen many people come and go from within those walls. His family has set up a GoFundMe for any help from others who have experienced something similar and has gotten to the end of the tunnel. Any support to their family and their story will help them get the legal representation that Miguel deserves. He’s been going through this journey with self-representation, if anybody has more information or advice for this family don’t be shy to offer community to this family who has always been apart of theirs.
