Hello! My name is Lexie Mosby, and I am the producer of "Midnight" - a graduate thesis project written and directed by Casey Hubbard. Casey and I are super excited to be bringing this project to life, BUT we cannot do it without your help! This project is so close to both of our hearts and we cannot thank you enough for even taking the time to look at this page! Meeting our goal of $8,000 means we can not only make this film happen, but take it above and beyond what we ever thought it could be! You can read more information about the film below!
Logline: At a house party on New Year’s Eve, 1999, three characters celebrate the turn of the century with newfound love and fresh problems as the threat of the Y2K apocalypse looms large and threatens to end it all before it even begins.
Short description: During a New Year’s Eve party in 1999, three different stories unfold throughout the night. Dawn, a girl who suspects her boyfriend of one year is going to propose to her, hunts him down to call things off. Meanwhile, timid loner, Dan searches for his crush, Laura, in hopes to express his true feelings to her. In the back bedroom of the house, a younger boy, Kye, talks to his long-distance internet girlfriend, Nat, worried sick of when he will, if ever, get to see her. The stories come to a head as the world approaches possible doomsday and the partygoers wait to see if their lives will ever be the same again…
Directors Statement: As a young boy growing up in small town Marshall, Arkansas, I often dreamed of a life bigger than the one I had. A lot of my dreaming was intrinsically tied to the art of storytelling in film. One of my earliest memories of falling in love with movies was when my mom taught me how to start the VHS player myself so that I could watch what I wanted to whenever I wanted to. As I grew older, my love for the medium never faded - it only grew stronger. When I began my college years pursuing film I had no idea it would lead me even deeper into the art form.
I have always been fascinated by specific eras in time and special moments, whether historical or cultural or both! I'm interested in telling niche stories with big ideas about humanity and history. The COVID-19 pandemic has inspired me to look closer at these niche categories and dissect what it is that captivates me about human nature. When COVID shut down the entire world in 2020, my friends and I had no idea what to do. School was shut down. Work had fired all of us. Vacations, plans, future memories - gone in the blink of an eye. The future was now more of an uncertainty than we had ever experienced. The only thing I could think to do was to throw a party at my house and just drink through the news headlines. Thinking about this tumultuous time got me interested in other ‘apocalyptic events’ in history and the notion of ‘mass panic’. Through this process, I arrived at MIDNIGHT. It is a story about change, chaos and the end of the world. Of course, the Y2K scare was just that, a scare, nothing serious, nothing close to what COVID-19 was. But make no mistake, this film is a COVID film through and through and I have a feeling that for a lot of people, MIDNIGHT will resonate with them. For me, MIDNIGHT is more than just a degree requirement. It is a statement of my history, my work, and my philosophy of life. The change that I have undergone in the past three years alone simultaneously excites and scares me. Evolution. Destruction. Change. Youth. These were the words driving me when writing the script for this film. I hope you join us in this campaign to bring MIDNIGHT to life. I know this is not just my story and my experience - it’s other people’s experience as well - and I would love to share it with you.
