My husband Marvin is a hardworking husband, a hardworking father and a supervisor at his job of 5 years. Marvin came to the US in 2016, starting a case under asylum. In 2017, Marvin and I met at a car show. We had a language barrier, Marvin only spoke Spanish and I only spoke English but I knew I wanted to be with him. We started a family early into our relationship. Our oldest son was born in 2018. As new parents, we were excited but met with challenges. Our son had seizures 12 hours old, discovering he had a stroke on the left side of his brain. Our son is now 6 years old and thriving with epilepsy and cerebral palsy. We had two more kids ages 5 and 3 now. Marvin has learned fluent English, has excelled in his job as a shop production supervisor. Marvin has always followed up with his case, filing appeals when needed, he was granted work permits during these nine years of going through the process.
Marvin received a letter in the mail to meet with an officer to discuss his immigration case. Marvin went to San Bernardino ICE center to check in with an officer. Without reasoning, they arrested Marvin and detained him in San Bernardino. I received a call from DHS and it was Marvin letting me know they’re transferring him to Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. After talking to Marvin today- he had said he is waiting for a date to see a judge to discuss bond. He states he is in a cell with 40 other male detainees awaiting a date to be seen or to sign deportation paperwork. Monday, I will need to go to LA to file the I-246, the stay removal order. The stay removal order will be approved or denied by an immigration officer and we’ve been warned- they aren’t approved often. Right now- it’s just a waiting game until he gets seen by a judge.
As new challenges face now that my husband is in detention- I am raising three kids on my own until he is home on one income. All donations will go towards his legal representation and any paperwork we need to file to get him home with us.
I appreciate everybody providing words of encouragement, checking in on the kids and I and offering support to us. I will continue to update as the days go by. Hopefully we get Marvin home with us as soon as possible.
