Bring Luis Home: Aid Carli's Struggle

Donation protected
Hello, everybody.

This particular Go Fund Me is a continuation of this last one, where my husband and I explain our situation. TL;DR we are approaching the beginning of year 4 of waiting for immigration to accept Luis’ application for a green card, and things are beginning to get even harder for me.

With the peso being so much less than the dollar, Luis can only support me so much before putting himself under, and I don’t want him to do that. He works a job that isn’t anything to sneeze at in Mexico, but the moment it transfers into USD, he barely breaks $1K. He works so hard only for his money to vanish.

With that being said, the last 4 years have been really hard on us. Not just being apart, but financially and health wise.

I can no longer afford my medication. Since the original GFM started three years ago, I’ve had several mental breakdowns due to the stress of him not being here and new health issues arise. I can’t even afford my normal medication, let alone the new ones I’ve been prescribed. I’ve pushed myself so hard to try to keep up. It backfired in the form of new health issues.

All of my credit cards are now closed. I can’t afford the payments and my credit is ruined. With how tight money had gotten, I fell into a hole of opening some $500 limit cards for some cushion, but quickly couldn’t afford the payments.

I’m one payment away from losing the car. I’ve had to cancel the insurance so I can keep the car and drive myself to work, and I pray every single day that I don’t get pulled over and arrested. FL car insurance is insanely expensive, and I need an SR-22 to reinstate my license from a past ticket of driving without insurance before. My mother had passed away at the time (2021) and I couldn’t afford the insurance then, either, from not working due to grief. I didn’t know my license was suspended until 2023, because the officer who pulled me over at the time did not inform me. I did get insurance again, but I had to get an SR-22 to get my license reinstated. Because the insurance was canceled this time, my license was suspended again by Florida DMV. Please note: I don’t have any accidents on my record, this is all only because I didn’t have insurance on the car.

I’m trying to find a second job to cover the bills, but I’m not having much luck. I’ve had interviews, but because I already work full time, they rightfully want to hire someone with more availability. I haven’t been able to get any overtime at my FTJ all year. They’re picking and choosing who gets what.

Even with my health issues, I’m trying to work harder to stay afloat. I know that’s going to make it worse, but I have no other choice.

I hate being this person, but please, even spreading this helps. USCIS says that severe financial loss or health issues can be part of a way to expedite my husband home, but when we asked, we were told I essentially have to be homeless or actually dying for him to come quicker. And even then, we’ve been told it was only going to be sooner by 10 days. Even though we don’t have a timeline for him to come home.

We’re not allowed to submit any actual questions as to “why isn’t this faster?” to USCIS themselves until 2032. The information we’ve been given when we did ask questions was from our immigration lawyer.

If you are unable to donate, I just ask that you spread this and understand that immigration standards is tearing families apart and putting Americans at risk more than just financially. We’re trying to do this the right way. We just want our life together.

Thank you,

Carli
