Fundraiser Story: Light for Life – Powering Dekina’s Maternity Ward
In Dekina Zonal Hospital in Kogi State,Nigeria, mothers are still giving birth in darkness. When the national grid fails as it often does. Nurses and doctors are forced to use torchlights and phone flashlights to deliver babies, even during emergency procedures. This is not just unsafe , it's deadly.

Too many lives have already been lost here.

I know this firsthand as I know women who have lost their kids in this same ward. Years later, my niece almost lost her life too. There was no electricity, and the hospital had to borrow a generator which didn’t even work. She survived, but barely. Others haven’t been so lucky.

Due to the lack of reliable power, some nurses are left with no choice but opt to give birth at home without professional care, risking their lives and the lives of their babies.

This isn’t right.

We want to change this — starting with a sustainable solution that will serve the maternity ward directly. Our goal is to install:

1,800W solar panels

2 kW inverter system

3.6 kWh lithium battery storage

This setup will guarantee round-the-clock electricity for essential equipment like incubators, fans, lights, and emergency tools — even when the national grid fails.

Every child deserves to be born in safety. Every mother deserves dignity and proper care.

Help us bring light and life to the women and babies of Dekina.

Please donate, and share this with anyone who believes in health, equity, and hope.
