Help Larry, 86, Find Safety, Stability, and Hope
Larry is 86 years old and facing the fight of his life — alone.

After losing his housing, Larry was forced to live in his car for over three months. At his age, life on the streets is not only dangerous but deeply dehumanizing. Thankfully, a compassionate caseworker is now helping him stay in a motel. But even that comes with challenges: the motel is primarily occupied by individuals battling addiction and homelessness. It’s a difficult and unsafe environment for someone as vulnerable as Larry.

His caseworker and St. Joseph Center are working tirelessly to help him secure permanent housing. But the process can take a very long time — and at Larry’s age, it’s uncertain how many years he has left. While long-term housing is the ultimate goal, Larry urgently needs support to address immediate and critical needs.

Larry’s Challenges:
He has scoliosis, a physical disability, that makes it hard to navigate in life. He is in urgent need of a back brace.

He has no kitchen, fridge, or microwave. On days when Meals on Wheels doesn’t deliver (weekends and Tuesdays), he survives on sardines and crackers.

His car — his only property and lifeline to mobility — is in critical need of repair. The catalytic converter must be replaced or he will fail the next smog check. Losing the car would be devastating.

He has no remaining family. He is doing his best, but he’s alone — and he shouldn’t have to be.

Top Priorities Right Now:

Urgent car repairs

Access to healthy meals on off-days

Basic living items: a back brace, microwave, and small refrigerator

Long-Term Goal:
Stable, permanent housing — a safe and peaceful place to live out his later years with dignity

How You Can Help
Larry is not just in need of financial assistance — he’s in need of a community.

Donate to help cover housing, food, a back brace, medical needs, and car repairs.

Volunteer your time — if you're local and able, we are looking for people to:

Deliver meals or groceries on weekends

Spend time with Larry or take him on gentle walks

Offer mechanical help or parts for his car

Share resources or advice — if you have ideas or connections that could help Larry find more stable housing or long-term solutions, please reach out.

Larry may not have the internet or a smartphone, but he is lucky to have a dear friend, Adeline, who helps him stay connected online and manage his daily needs. We’d love to expand this small support network and give Larry a community to rely on.

Thank you for caring. Every act of kindness makes a difference.
