Hi! My name is Bernard Mpagazihe, and I was born and raised in Karambi, a rural community in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. More than 25 years ago, I fled my home because of war and instability. I was blessed to find safety and a new life with my family in the United States, but many in Karambi never had that chance.
My heart has never left my community. Every year, every blessing I experienced here in the U.S., made me more determined to give back to the people I grew up with. That is why I founded Hands Without Boundaries Foundation — a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping create sustainable opportunities for communities like Karambi and support
The Story
Karambi has never had electricity. Families rely on charcoal and paraffin for light, harming health, limiting education, and contributing to deforestation. Schools, the one medical center, and the church all struggle without power.
Recently, a young local entrepreneur built a small hydroelectric system using salvaged materials, bringing electricity to a few homes near the dam. His effort proved that Karambi has the natural potential for clean, renewable energy — and the determination to build a better future
With your support, we can expand this system to reach more homes and essential services, transforming daily life for a community that has lived without power for generations.
Our Goal
We aim to raise $50,000, beginning with an urgent first phase of $5,000 to repair and strengthen the existing hydroelectric structure and prepare for expansion.
Your support will help:
• Provide safe lighting for families and students
• Power the local medical center
• Reduce reliance on harmful fuels
• Protect the environment by reducing deforestation
• Build a stronger future for Karambi
Why Your Support Matters
This project is more than power — it is dignity, opportunity, and hope. It is a chance for Karambi to rebuild after decades of hardship and for its children to grow up with possibilities their parents never had.
By supporting this campaign, you are helping me give back to the home that shaped me and helping a resilient community take its first step into the light.
Please donate, and please share this campaign with a friend, a relative. Together, we can bring light and hope to Karambi.
Thank you from the bottom of our heart.
