My name is Sebastian Hyzak, a pre-medical student at the University of Miami and an active member of the Peruvian American Medical Society (PAMS). I recently returned from a medical mission to Yantalo, Peru, where I worked alongside physicians to deliver care to underserved communities across the region.
During the mission, I witnessed firsthand the critical need for sustainable diagnostic infrastructure in rural Peru. One of the most urgent issues we encountered was the inoperability of the clinic’s Siemens Polymobil III X-ray machine, a vital tool for diagnosing conditions ranging from fractures and pneumonia to infections and tumors. The machine is currently nonfunctional due to a damaged flat panel digital detector, a crucial component that captures and transmits X-ray images. Without this detector, patients in the region have no access to diagnostic imaging. Many would have to travel hours—if they can afford to at all—to reach the nearest functioning facility. For many patients, especially children and the elderly, this simply isn't an option. The result is delayed care, missed diagnoses, and avoidable suffering.
This clinic is run on donations, and I am raising $14,000 to purchase and transport a Varian PaxScan 4336R Portable Digital Image Receptor — the exact flat panel detector required to restore function to the Siemens Polymobil III X-ray machine at the Yantalo Clinic in rural Peru.
Receipts for all expenses will be posted to this campaign page.
Weekly updates will be provided until the detector is installed and fully operational.
Any excess funds will be donated directly to the clinic or used to purchase supplementary supplies.
We really appreciate your help!
