Hi, my name is William, and I’m raising funds for my partner, Leandro (Leo), who was detained by ICE on October 24th and is now facing deportation despite building a life here.
Leo has been in the U.S. for four years this is his second time here and he’s worked hard to make a better life. He’s a chef at a restaurant, known for his energy, kindness, and willingness to help anyone in need. Back home, he’s cooked meals for people living on the streets, and here he’s the kind of person who lights up any room. He loves to dance, loves nature (hugs every big tree he sees), and goes the extra mile for those around him.
On Saturday morning, we were leaving for breakfast when ICE suddenly surrounded our car, opened the doors, and demanded our paperwork. Since that moment, everything has changed. Leo is currently being detained in Plymouth Prison, a place he doesn’t belong, while we wait for a hearing on November 6th.
I’ve already taken out most of my savings and, with the help of Leo’s mom in Brazil, are securing an attorney. But bond and ongoing legal fees are separate and are expected to total anywhere between $5,000 and $10,000. I’m still working full time to keep up with our bills and care for our pets and home, but the weight of this situation, financially and emotionally, has been overwhelming.
If we can post bond, Leo can come home while we continue to fight his case.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to that goal. Even sharing this page helps more than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to read and support. Your kindness gives us hope in a moment where it’s hard to hold onto it.
I will update this post as the process progresses.
