Our family is living a nightmare. Kory has been wrongfully sentenced, torn away from the life and people he loves, and locked in a system that refuses to hear the truth. He committed a crime over 15 years ago and has done sufficient prison time to more than pay for that debt—he is a son, a father, a brother, a friend, and a good man who now wakes up every morning behind bars because the justice system failed him.

No family should have to sit in a courtroom and watch the person they love be punished for something they did not do. The evidence that should have cleared him magically “malfunctioned” according to police. Additionally, the narrative the police gave couldn’t have happened. His voice wasn’t heard. Now, instead of planning his future, we are fighting for his freedom.

Every day that passes is another day stolen from him, from us, and from the life he deserves. The appeals process is long, grueling, and brutally expensive. At the moment we are just trying to get the trial transcripts, which cost 1300 dollars and are not part of the “freedom of information act." Filing fees pile up. Every step to fight back comes with a price tag.
