TLDR: Raising money to buy presents for students who would otherwise not get any this year.
Hello!
My name is Sam Halladay and I'm a history teacher at SiaTech, a continuation and trade high school here in Sacramento. I get to work at a very special school, where students who have had disruptions in their education, life or might not have somewhere to go can live on campus, get clothes, and all their food free of charge. This represents an incredible opportunity to many of our students who contend with homelessness, or housing insecurity to have a safe place to get the tools they need, a high school diploma, apprentice into a trade to, and connections to grants and programs to help them start fresh. The holidays can be a difficult time for some of our students, with many of our students dealing with homelessness, or not having somewhere to be over the holidays. While it might not seem like much, in a time of year when reflecting on family is natural, we'd like our students to know that they are seen by people who love them.
We want to make sure each student has the opportunity to get a present this year. We are a small school of 150 students and we can realistically purchase enough presents, nothing major, just something to show they are valued. Our plan is to aim for 3000 dollars, which is enough for each student to receive a small gift, if we don't reach that the money will be used to make sure the kids can go home with some small treats and trinkets for the holidays.
