A hospital is a lonely place to stay with cancer. Because many hospitalizations for cancer patients can be longer than others, it can be a scary, sad experience.

The Zinnia Project was created by a patient who was hospitalized for 127 days while being treated for blood cancer and a bone marrow transplant. She learned first-hand that cancer patients need some special care items to make their stay more comfortable (including “Good” tissue, a chapstick, unscented lotions and soaps, a place to write down notes, a coloring project, messages of encouragement and more.) When she was finally released to come home, she started making and delivering large Patient Baskets with those items.

Over the past 10 years, The Zinnia Project has grown into a privately run charitable program dedicated to delivering cheer to hospitalized cancer patients and their caregivers. Over 500 “Zinnia Baskets” have been delivered as well as 250 “mini Zinnies” (welcome kits for newly admitted patients) and hundreds of holiday gifts.

$25 - Sponsor 10 art therapy coloring kits (a beautiful zinnia coloring page and full size color pencils.)

$50 - Sponsor five “Mini Zinnie” welcome bags given to cancer patients upon their admission to the hospital. “Mini-Zinnies” include toothbrush & toothpaste, emory board, eye mask and earplugs, Purell wipes, hand mirror, and Chapstick.

$100 - Sponsor an extra large “Zinnia Patient Basket” filled with full-size toiletries and comfort items for special bone marrow transplant patients who have limited resources facing an extended hospital stay. Baskets include mini-Zinnie items listed above as well as full-size Kleenex, journal, fan, writing supplies, gentle shower gel, body lotion, hand sanitizer encouragement sign, face wash, Bio-oil, and much more.
