Hello, my name is Monserrat Sarmiento, daughter of Jose Sarmiento. This is something I never in a million years thought I’d ever have to do. It’s with a heavy heart that I'm telling the world that we need help. My dad was detained by ICE police on his commute to work Wednesday, May 14th, 2025. He was not driving, but everyone in the vehicle was asked for identification. He is not a criminal. He is a law-abiding citizen who moved here to live the American dream. He has his home here, his family, his life. He is a God-fearing Catholic man, a routine churchgoer, a family man, the best father and grandfather, and an amazing son, uncle, god-uncle, and friend.

We need $9,400 to pay for his lawyer, so we can hopefully get my dad out of there. He is not being treated as a human being. My father is a good person, he always has been, and he raised us, his five kids, with the same morals. My brother is a Sergeant in the US Army, and he is currently overseas in Iraq fighting for the freedom of this country. This is causing immense stress and uncertainty for our family. He is emotionally vital to our family; he’s not just our dad, he is a source of strength and stability for our entire family. When anyone needs anything, he’s the first one they call, and he always picks up and is there to help. We just want to get him home, he’s old, and they’re not giving him his medication where he’s at.
