I am trying to raise the fees required to retain a lawyer for my boyfriend Jeffrey. He has been incarcerated for 25+ years in the Louisiana State Penitentiary. He committed his crime when he was 3 months past his 19th birthday and had a public defender that didn't look out for his best interest. In the years that he has been incarcerated, he has taken every trade class available so he is a certified electrician, small engine and diesel repairman, HVAC repairman, and fiberoptics installer. Beyond that, he has become an amazing artist, working in many mediums including oil and acrylic painting, woodwork, jewelry making, metal sculpting, and airbrushing. The path of his life and thinking are going in a completely different direction than when he was 19, and who among us wants to be judged for the lowest point in our lives for eternity? We all have the ability to evolve and change. He should be given a chance to live his life out in the world again. He has never claimed innocence and has paid his debt to society...he would have been released by now if he was in any other state than Louisiana, or if it had happened when he was still 18. The lawyer believes that his sentencing was improperly done, and an investigation into the proceedings could give him an opportunity to come home.
