Bring it for Nate and family!

“ “So what’s with the lump on your neck?”

“Aw, nothin’. I’ll watch it.”

“Nah, I think you should get it checked out.”

“Yeah, I probably should.”

None of Nate’s friends and family would ever have expected an otherwise healthy, athletic 43 year old man to be diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer. Nate was never a smoker, lifted weights religiously, ate and thought well. He defined the word “healthy.” It was a shock to us all. Yet here we suddenly were, gripped with anxiety and fear Nate himself refused to feel, or at least show.

A setback in Nate’s and our lives was now to be overcome. It was crunch time. Battle willing. Fight. Suffer. Conquer. Recover. This is where we, Nate’s friends and family, ask you to help with our pledge to raise $ 20,000 over the next sixty days to mitigate the tens of thousands of dollars Nate and his family have had to expend beyond their health insurance limits for his treatments and ongoing recovery.

So just who is Nate? Nate J. Dunn is a 13 year veteran of the highly regarded Long Beach (CA) Police Department, having served as a Police Officer with the zero tolerance integrity required of all of the LBPD’s honored workforce. Nate often went above and beyond the call of duty as many of his colleagues do. For example, he once teamed up with a co-worker to raise funds to replace, then personally deliver an elderly Long Beach woman’s stolen bicycle. Another time, unbeknownst to him, a Long Beach citizen observed, then reported Nate converting a homeless man’s would be aggressive actions into respect for the well-being of others.

Nate and his amazing wife, Becca, are the proud parents of two beautiful children, ages 3 years and a brand new 4 months. The timing of Nate’s diagnosis put a further strain on his family and him. Nate had recently been medically retired from law enforcement and chose to embark upon an entirely different career. Not only having to adjust to his new job, Nate had to face the reality of receiving onerous and expensive treatment for weeks on end. Additionally, the treatment required Nate to be long absent from Becca, whom already had her hands full as a full time mom.

We friends and family maxed out our time, love and support for the Dunn family over the course of Nate’s treatment and continue to do so during his equally painful recovery. We also contributed (and will continue to contribute) financially as much as reasonable. However, the financial side of this battle remains the largest hurdle. We thus ask if anyone can, please, consider making a small donation via this GoFundMe support drive for Nate Dunn.  Any funds will be used exclusively for ongoing treatment and prior expenses. We and he, would be eternally grateful and we thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

The Friends and Family of Nate Dunn “
