SUMMARY
I am raising money to bring Aysegul aka Ice (one of my oldest and closest friend who is from Istanbul, Turkey) to Europe & the U.K. for the summer. Turkey is now experiencing its highest inflation rate in 2 decades (1€ equalled 3₺ liras in 2016, now 1€ = 16₺!!!) and Ice also needs to apply and pay for visas to come here (visas for Europe & the UK alone cost 180€!). She used to study in Europe and had a student visa which expired in 2019 when she graduated, and she would now like to come back to Europe for the first time in almost 3 years to visit her friends, but inflation in Turkey and her non-European status is making it very hard for her to come back.
Literally every donation helps, as even 10€ is now worth 160₺ (1 coffee costs about 6₺, so 10€ = ~27 ☕️!).
All donations will be transferred to Ice on her birthday (23rd of March) and will be a huge surprise for her!

WHO IS ICE?
It is simply impossible not to remember Ice - If you’ve seen her, even once in your life, you will remember her crazy curly hair, her XXL smile, her incredible level of empathy, and her overall drive to live life to the fullest.

Or chances are that you have met her at a Burning Man-based event, or in France where she studied 4 years, or in Switzerland where she has also built many friendships - or basically anywhere across this world, really. Chances are she’s also one of the most selfless person you have ever met, as she does not hesitate to unconditionally give her time and energy to help a friend or a stranger, and you have found a very attentive listener and an almost immediate friend in her.
WHY THIS CROWDFUNDING?
Over the past years, Ice has built a whole life in Europe and made lifelong friendships outside her homeland.
However, once she graduated from a French university in 2019 her student visa expired - as well as her right to freely come back to Europe.
In order to come to Europe and/or the U.K., Turkish citizens need a visa to travel, and these visas cost 80€ (Schengen visa) and 95£ (Standard visitor visa to visit the UK ). Given that Turkey has experienced its highest inflation rate in 2 decades, travelling to Europe now basically costs a fortune
⚠️ It has even reached a point where “many Turks can’t afford bread, and bakers can’t afford to make it” (New York Times, 2021)
If like Ice you would live in Turkey today, studied in France for 4 years with a student visa and that student visa expired, it would require more than a well-paid job for you to comfortably travel across Europe and visit your friends and go back to places you use to call home.
IMPACT OF THIS CROWDFUNDING
Thanks to you, Ice will be able to visit her friends outside of Turkey -yes, maybe you too- for the first time in almost 3 years!!
Thanks to you, she will be able to go back to the places she used to call home
Thanks to you, she will not have to watch her friends do things she can’t afford while she’s visiting them
Thanks to you, her summer might actually be enjoyable, and not a source of constant stress and frustration
Thanks to you, Ice will simply regain some of the European rights she used to have and that are easily taken for granted
WHAT WOULD THE MONEY COVER?
The money will be spent in things such as:
➡ Visas (~180€)
➡ Flight tickets (~250€) ✈️
➡ Transports across Europe (~200€)
➡ Food & drinks for 1-2 months (~ 600€) ☕️
➡ Accommodations (mostly friends’ but occasional hostels/Airbnb) (~ 200€)
In case of exceeded target:
➡ A 2 weeks dance practice in Prague she’s been dreaming about
➡ Other events/retreats/workshops she is interested in
DOES ICE KNOW ABOUT THIS?
No - and you should not tell her until the 23rd of March, which is the date of her birthday and the date where all money from this crowdfunding will be transferred to her bank account.
RISK AND CHALLENGES
Ice is already planning on coming back to Europe for the summer - thus, even if this crowdfunding does not reach its target, your money will still be spent in helping Ice during her travels.
With less than 1000€, however, chances are her stay in Europe will be much shorter, some countries like Switzerland might be too expensive to travel to, and everything will just be more frustrating, stressful, and constraining.
Hence, every penny spent is a huge help! Again, even just 10€ already equals 160₺
