Bring I Am the Seagull to Life with JTC

Jump the Creek Productions is an independent production company dedicated to reinventing classic and historical texts for a contemporary audience.
JTC is currently seeking funding for our next theatrical endeavor: I Am The Seagull, adapted by Co Founder Kat Corrigan. I Am The Seagull is a bold reimagining of The Seagull by Anton Chekov, wherein most characters are portrayed by puppets. We have cultivated a dynamic team of student puppeteers and designers to create the project. In order to bring the ensemble’s vision to life, we are currently seeking funding for puppet building materials, set pieces, and costumes. In addition to a full set and costuming, all 10 puppets in the show will be built from scratch. (And that doesn’t even include the copious amount of shadow puppets!)
Adaptor Kat Corrigan describes her vision as such: “I wanted to create a venue for actors and designers to collaborate more with UConn’s puppetry program. To me, this play is about what it means to be an artist. It is my hope that this show becomes an outlet for all of us to create something artistically stimulating and continue our journey of finding out what kind of artists we want to be. We hope that our take on Chekhov’s most famous play will demystify classical work and make it not just accessible but thoroughly enjoyable for a broader audience.”
The script is The Seagull by Anton Chekhov, the rest is anything but. Coming to the University of Connecticut Spring 2025.
