We the family of Myles Hulama are humbly asking for any support to bring him home from Oahu to do a family viewing and, a cremation service… & possibly A CELEBRATION OF LIFE
On 09/17/2022 he went to urgent care due to a bad cough and difficulty breathing. When he got there urgent care they didn't want to treat him due to his symptoms being covid like, so they insisted that he should go the emergency room where they can run more tests. After leaving urgent care he went straight to the emergency room where he got tested for covid and the test returned negative so they just gave him antibiotics for his cough and breathing then sent him home. Although he got to go home his symptoms only got worse. 09/26/2022 he said that he was having a hard time breathing and he was wheezing and he still had his cough. The ambulance got called and they brought him to the emergency room. They ran a bunch of test on him. While waiting for the results to come back, they gave him two doses of albuterol, the albuterol wasn’t working he still had all of his symptoms. All of his test came back okay, his nurse did let us know that he had pneumonia in both of his lungs and they’re going to do a CT of his lungs. Around 8:19pm the results from his CT came back and it turns out he had a massive mass in his lungs that was blocking his airway. The nurse told my dad (myles son) that he should call the rest of the family so we could say our goodbyes because it might be the last time we see him. Myles had the option to get a medevac to Oahu to try to clear some of the mass or to stay in hospice in NHCH, but to get medevac to Oahu he either had to be put on life support and wait until his oxygen was good enough to fly.
Myles didn’t want to just stay in hospice, so we all agreed to let him do what he wanted: to get flown to Oahu even if it meant we weren’t going to see him again.. 09/27/2022he got medevac to Oahu and his immediate family all went later that day to be with him. He made it to Oahu safely and proved all the nurses and doctors at NHCH wrong. He got to queens. They treated him and ran more tests on him. He was doing better. His breathing got better he was talking better and smiling. A couple of days went by, and on 09/29/2022 his doctor confirmed that the mass in his lungs was cancer. His doctors gave him a choice to do treatment in Oahu or back at home on the big island. He told his doctor that he wanted to it on the big island because that’s where he’s from and where all his family is. He was released from Queens on 10/01/2022and was supposed to fly home on 10/02/2022, due to his oxygen fluctuating with his oxygen tank, he had to wait one more day to fly home. 10/03/2022, he got to fly home and be with his family. A couple of weeks went by and on 10/14/2022he had an appointment with his oncologist where they confirmed that he had stage 3 cancer, and because it was between his lungs, they could not operate on him. He was told to do chemo once a weekend and radiation daily, Monday - Friday. However, he was still having shortness of breath and some coughing, so he had to get flown back to Oahu to laser some of the blockages in his lungs before he could even think of starting chemo and radiation. 10/15/2022 was his birthday, and he had to spend it alone, not knowing if he would make it or even see his family again. Every day since he went back up, his family would call him so that he knew that we were all thinking of him and we loved and missed him. During this whole process, he was feeling anxious and having anxiety due to him being by himself the second time around of him being up there. On 10/28/2022after getting off the phone with his wife and daughter a few hours later, his nurse called his wife saying that Myles felt as if he couldn’t breathe, like something was stuck in his throat blocking his airway, so they gave him medicine to calm his anxiety and breathing. After hanging up on his wife, the nurse called back again, saying that Myles needed help breathing, so they went and intubated him. While being intubated, he went into cardiac arrest and was gone… They said they brought him back, but he passed away shortly after being brought back.
On October 28 5:40am Myles Hulama our beloved Father, Grandfather, & Great Grandfather left us. We humbly ask for any donations to be able to bring him home and have one last goodbye.
