Could you help buy a Golden Treasure for Bungay? I'm raising money in aid of BUNGAY MUSEUM TRUST and every donation will help.
An Anglo-Saxon pendant – known as a bracteate – has been found in Bungay by a metal detectorist and is now being offered for purchase by the British Museum to Bungay Museum.
The gold bracteate dates from between AD 450-650. The circular pendant is decorated on the front with an abstract design. The geometric stamped pattern consisting of decorated Y-shapes randomly spaced. In the centre of the motif is a small, raised dot surrounded by two concentric circles.
The find, which has a plain back and a hanging loop, is described as in ‘fine condition’ with little bending and distortion, and would be a great addition to the Museum.
