Hi, I’m Griff. I live part-time down in the beautiful village of San Marcos La Laguna, in the highlands of Guatemala.
Together, with my good friend Selvin (owner of Arati Café) and a few other friends, we’re organizing a holiday drive to bring gifts to kids (up to age 12) here in the village. Selvin and others have done this in years past and we're bringing it back to life this holiday season :)
How it works:
- Kids write wish letters to Santa and drop off at designated locations in the village.
- We read through each letter, and build a big wish list for Santa :)
- We use pooled donations to help Santa bring the gifts to town.
- Families pick up gifts at Arati Café, Dec 23–25.
Every dollar goes toward gifts and basic logistics (school pickups, supplies, and organizing the pick-up days). We’re not matching donors to specific children; we fund the whole group as fairly as possible. At the end of the project we will share a transparent report of all costs & number of gifts given.
We made a small website this year and will be updating it as the campaign progresses:
Thank you for helping us make the holidays a little brighter for the kids here,
— Griff, Selvin & friends
-- UPDATE Nov 17 --
we've received 193 letters . there may be a few more late arrivals, so we're guessing ~200-210 total.
based on the gifts requested, we estimate about ~175 quetalezes ($23) per child. we are adjusting our goal to match this number: increasing from $3300 to $5000.
