The Fall River Fire Museum is a 501c3 non-profit corporation that was born from an idea from like minded Firefighters and friends in 2006. We have been working hard since then to restore our fire station built in 1873 into a Fire Museum. We have made major advancements in the restoration but one of the last pieces of the puzzle before we can open to the public is the installation of the fire alarm and emergency lighting system. This is where you maybe able to help us with this “Go Fund Me” appeal.
The primary purpose of the museum is to “collect, preserve, and exhibit artifacts that properly document the history of the Fall River Fire Department in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We are also dedicated to educating the public in fire safety and prevention and to serve as a memorial to the fallen Fall River Firefighters who have given their lives to the fire service and the citizens of Fall River.
The museum is located in a combination fire and police station known as Anawan #6. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings and was one of the oldest working fire stations when it closed.
Our collection includes a 1936 Maxim Pumper and a 1937 Seagrave Ladder Truck, both Fall River trucks. We are also the proud guardians of a steel relic that was recovered from the wreckage of the World Trade Center in New York City after the terrorist attack. The attack which killed over 2500 civilians, 343 Firefighters, 23 NYPD Officers , and 37 Port Authority Officers.
The Fire Museum is not just about old stuff from the fire service. We work in partnership with the Fire Department in their fire prevention efforts, as well as a way to get the youth of the area interested in the fire service. Everyone knows that every little boy or girl at some point dreams of being a firefighter. The Museum maybe where that spark firsts ignites.
Please help us to finally get the doors open. Thank-you
And thank-you for sharing
