Reunite Amy Diedhiou with Her Daughter After 30 Years Away

Dear Community, Family, and Friends,

Assalamualaikum! Peace be upon you!

Amy Diedhiou, a 75-year-old undocumented End-Stage Renal Disease patient, arrived in the US over 30+ years ago from Senegal. She has been battling this disease, amongst other illnesses, for about 10 years and is currently residing in a Medicaid-run nursing home in New York for all her medical needs. Amy does not have family in the US and has not seen her only daughter Marieme, or met her grandchildren, since leaving Senegal. Amy, unfortunately, missed the passing of her mother and eldest son, due to her being in the US. Amy’s end-of-life dream is to reunite with her daughter, kiss and hug her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and finally return to her home country of Senegal.

In order to make Amy’s dream come true, we’ve been in contact with hospitals and doctors in Senegal to help transfer her care in the most successful way possible. Her daughter Marieme does not have a home of her own or any means of income to support her family. Amy’s grandchildren are in school and have a long way to go before they’re able to financially support their family. In order to fulfill Amy’s dream, we need to raise funds for all the medical costs and the cost of living in Senegal, as Amy is wheelchair-bound and needs to be in close proximity to the hospital. Her daughter Marieme currently resides in a small village and will need to relocate to Dakar (Senegal’s capital) for Amy’s medical needs. Amy will require an accessible apartment with a functioning kitchen so that Marieme can tailor to Amy’s renal diet.

As Amy has End Stage Renal Disease, she requires dialysis three times a week. Each dialysis treatment costs USD 120, and Amy needs three treatments per week. We are extremely grateful that Amy is in remission from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, but continues to battle with hypertension, anemia, and depression. We would like to ensure that there are funds for her medications and treatments, checkups, and physical therapy to help her mobility.

Amy’s energy radiates when you walk into the room, even despite the unfortunate circumstances she has endured. Her devotion and faith as a Muslim have allowed her to get through each day. When you ask Amy how she’s doing, she always says “Alhumdullilah” and praises Allah for her health and strength. She dedicated her whole life to her Muslim community, taking care of children in her apartment building and using what she earned to give back to her family in Senegal. She loves every single person deeply, no matter how long she has known them. She’s ethereal, pure, and kind, and loves from her heart. Her smile radiates like no other, and we hope it remains everlasting as she returns to Senegal.
That's why we're turning to you, for support. Your generosity can make a world of difference in her and her family's life. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to reuniting Amy with her family and continuing the essential needs of her medical care.
