While Gord Kidder was in Europe recently to take part in ceremonies to honor his uncle who was a POW in WWII and the 75th anniversary of The Great Escape he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was rushed to a hospital in Prague (Czech Republic), where emergency surgery was performed. After two weeks and two surgeries Gord remains in a coma in the Intensive Care Unit.

Unfortunately, Gord does not have out-of-country or private health care insurance coverage so expenses continue to accrue. As soon as Gord is physically able to be transported the plan is to bring him home to Canada and into a facility that can help facilitate his recovery.

As you can imagine, this is a family's worst nightmare. While the consulates have been contacted they do not provide funding and OHIP covers a very small portion of his daily expenses. In addition, there will be the cost of medical transport to Canada. Every day Gord is out of Canada significantly increases his expenses so we are urgently raising funds to cover his out of country medical expenses and to arrange transport for him as soon as he is medically stable.

Gord is an integral part of the Huntsville and Port Sydney communities, well known by many. He and his wife Patricia also lived for many years in Milford Bay and before that Toronto.

Please Help Bring Gord Home. Donations in any amount  will make a difference and are very much appreciated. All donations will go towards Gord's recovery.

A note from Gord’s family
“We are deeply saddened to inform you that Gord passed away on Wednesday. We are relieved that his passing was peaceful and painless.

We would like to say 'Thank You' for the love, support, positivity and kindness sent our way over the weeks while Gord was in hospital in Prague.

We can never put into words our gratitude for the generosity of so many in helping bring him home, giving us the last days for us to be by his side. We would never have been able to make this happen without all of you!

We continue to be overwhelmed by the depths of generosity and compassion we received from so many: strangers, acquaintances, old friends, new friends, friends of friends and family; we are so fortunate. Some people live a whole life and never get to experience first-hand just how much people care for them, love them and support them. The fact that as a family we were able to receive this gift has been so surreal, humbling and so much more than anyone will ever know.

Because of all of you we have been inspired in so many ways. You have given us a sense of gratitude which changed our hearts from feeling broken to feeling full. Full of hope and full of love. We hope you feel our gratitude and that this message inspires you to continue doing acts of kindness towards everyone you love in your life.

A special thank you to Karen and Char for creating the GFM campaign and keeping everyone updated. And a very special thank you to my dad’s wonderful friends Iveta and Marie in Prague. They cared for him like their own family which we are eternally grateful for and are so blessed they are in our lives.

Gord will be deeply missed. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Thank you again.”

“Gord Kidder is finally home” (in Canada). His medical transport landed a few hours ago and he has been transferred to hospital (where he remains in a coma). Gord’s family is deeply grateful and wants to thank all of you for helping to bring him home where he belongs.

A special thank you to all of the medical professionals who cared for Gord in Prague and on his flight home. And a very special thank you to Gord’s wonderful friends in Prague who cared for him like family.

The purpose of this GoFundMe campaign was to bring Gord home and we achieved that goal, thanks to “Team Bring Gord Kidder Home”, so the campaign is now concluded. This will be the final update through GoFundMe.

Please continue to keep Gord and his family in your thoughts and prayers...Karen
