In 2021, when the city was struggling to provide a functioning and responsible recycling program, we had the idea that we could at least recycle the glass ourselves. The more we learned, the more we knew we wanted to bring real glass recycling to our community.
No more watching your recycling end up in a landfill, no more contract “recyclers” shipping our recycling thousands of miles away creating even more CO2 emissions, and no more relying on an opaque system that doesn't serve our community as much as it could.
Since then, the City of Jacksonville announced that curbside recycling would resume normal operation April 4th 2022.
While we’re grateful and relieved of this news, this doesn’t change GlassCycle’s goal.
We’re going all-in, arm in arm with YOU, our community members and neighbors, to make a responsible and transparent glass recycling program that recycles the way we think recycling ought to work.
Together, we aim to create a transparent, environmentally-responsible, and grassroots program that not only diverts Jacksonville’s glass waste away from our landfills, but takes that waste and turns it into eco-friendly products that will be used for disaster relief measures, eco-construction materials, and coastline restoration projects right here in our First Coast!
With your support, we’ll all be reinventing our community’s glass recycling.
What your donations will be used for:
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward our first glass crushing machine which converts glass into sand and cullet.
In order to expand services and capabilities, any additional profits will go toward:
1. A dump truck and receptacles so that we can offer pick-up service to local businesses and residents, primarily where curbside recycling is not provided by the city.
2. Installation of drop-off locations around Jacksonville.
3. Rent for warehouse space so we can offer free glass drop-off.
4. General costs associated with startup.
