My name is Gerry McCarthy, born in Cork and raised in Malahide, Co. Dublin.
For over 30 years, I dedicated my life to humanitarian work across Africa, providing aid during conflicts in Somalia, South Sudan, and Rwanda. During this time, I gave virtually all my funds and assets to development projects in these countries, believing in service to others.
Unfortunately, my own life has taken a difficult turn in recent years. During COVID, work ran out for me, and my health began to steadily decline. In 2022, I suffered the devastating loss of my 20-year-old daughter, Moyra.
Today, I urgently need help myself. In the last three weeks, I suffered a serious fall in Kenya, leaving me with an unstable spinal fracture. My only option is to return to Ireland for emergency surgery and months of recovery care. On top of this, I am battling other health issues including diabetes, kidney problems, and poor circulation.
As I approach my 70th year, with no assets and only a modest state pension, I find myself in the heartbreaking position of asking for help. I urgently need financial support to:
- Cover my hospital costs in Kenya
- Repatriate to Ireland
- Undergo emergency spinal surgery in Ireland
- Aftercare assistance
I have spent my life helping others, but I never thought I’d be the one in need. Now, I humbly ask for your help so I can get home, receive surgery, and recover. Every donation makes a difference.
Thank you from my heart,
Gerry
