Hello, I’m Matt Bosson and I’m raising funds to make a new short film, George and Rosa. The film tells a story about two homeless people from different cultures, who find each other and form a fragile relationship. It’s a reflection on loneliness and the innately human need for companionship. The film will be shot in Borrego Springs, California, with the town and surrounding desert as its backdrop.
The film will be produced on a micro-budget, but there will be costs, including camera and lighting equipment, sound recording and mixing, post-production, and the travel and support expenses associated with shooting in remote locations.
To give you an idea of what the film is about, I made a 2-minute teaser with Russell Webb as George.
Here's the logline for George and Rosa:
George, an old man living alone on the margins in a small desert town, meets Rosa, a woman in similar circumstances. Although they don’t speak the same language, George and Rosa form a bond. Together, they find companionship and something akin to love. But will their relationship last, once George learns Rosa’s secret?
The film stars Russell Webb as George and Rosemary Dominguez as Rosa.
Russell Webb is a retired actor, director and theatrical technician who has worked in regional theaters throughout the country. After moving to Borrego Springs full time, he produced, co-directed and starred in his first short film, A Gift for All Ages, which premiered in 2021.
Rosemary Dominguez is an actor and writer living in Los Angeles whose long list of credits include roles on the series Landman, Better Call Saul, Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, and CSI, as well as the feature films Papi Chulo, Instant Family, and Hope Street Holiday; not to mention, she starred in my first short film, Desperate Manny.
I, Matt Bosson – the writer/director of George and Rosa, had a long career in video playback, working on series like 24, House MD, and Grey’s Anatomy. After leaving Los Angeles and television production, I relocated to Borrego Springs and began teaching English (ESL). Creatively, I split my time between filmmaking and music. My last short film, BAD, a hybrid music-video based on an original song, was filmed and premiered here in Borrego Springs. Desperate Manny was released in 2016 and has been playing on various platforms ever since. It’s currently available for streaming on Tubi.com.
But let’s get back to George and Rosa!
I know these are uncertain and difficult times, and there are many important projects and causes that need support. Perhaps donating to an indie short film isn’t a high priority right now, and I totally understand that. But I think this film, about two unlikely souls forming a tenuous bond, will impart a sense of hope for the love, virtue and dignity of all people. And so, I hope that you will be able to support the George and Rosa project. No donation is too small. Thanks very much for taking the time to watch the teaser and read about my short film and its fundraising campaign!
All the best! --Matt
