On Christmas of 2023, CW4 Garrett Illerbrunn was critically wounded by a drone strike while deployed to Erbil, Iraq while supporting the Global War on Terror. Since that day, Garrett and his family have been fighting to bring him home.

As Garrett transitions out of the Army, many barriers have to be removed in order for this to happen in a way that is sustainable for the family.

These funds will assist with medical equipment, innovative treatments not covered by insurance and quality of life improvements.

Upgrading his hospital bed and wheelchair to heal and prevent pressure ulcers and accessing promising therapeutic treatments that are not yet standard of care - such as hyperbaric oxygen or stem cell therapy- are some examples of how these funds will assist the Illerbrunns.

Emerging treatments and innovative ideas are not yet standard of care, so often not covered by medical insurance and often require distance travel.

Consistent physical, occupational, speech, psychological, and cognitive therapy in the years following a devastating brain injury are critical to maximizing recovery. Often insurance does not cover the amount of therapy we want Garrett to have.

Moving to a new home designed with ease of wheelchair and hospital bed movement in mind, as well as the presence of medical staff, will be our reality in the next year or two.

The dream would be to have a peaceful indoor and outdoor space for family time, visits and adaptive hobbies (i.e, skiing, boating/fishing, hunting/shooting) that will improve Garrett's quality of life.
