I wasn't looking for another dog.

In fact, some people would probably tell you my house is already full. But this wasn't the first time I've met a dog I couldn't walk away from.

Last December, while visiting Dominica, I met Luella. She was limping severely, thin, and terrified of many of the people around her. I couldn't stop thinking about her. Leaving her behind was not an option.

To help her, I reached out to the only animal rescue on the island—Saint Nicholas Animal Rescue (SNAR).

What I expected was help getting one dog home.

What I found was a small group of extraordinary people fighting every day for animals that have been abandoned, neglected, and horribly abused. I spent three days alongside the staff and volunteers and witnessed the heartbreaking reality they face. They rescue animals from unimaginable situations, provide medical care, and work tirelessly to educate their community about compassion and responsible animal care. Their work is courageous, and it often feels like an uphill battle.

Without SNAR, Luella would likely never have made it home.

Today, I'm asking for your help—not for Luella, but for the hundreds of animals who will come after her.

The shelter is operating without electricity.

To bring electrical service to the property, Dominica Electricity Services Limited must extend power lines to the shelter at a cost of $15,000 USD. An additional $2,500 USD is needed to wire the primary areas of the shelter. My goal is to raise $17,500 USD so this project can begin as soon as possible.

Something as simple as electricity will change everything. It will provide lighting, improve security, enhance sanitation, and make it possible for the staff and volunteers to care for animals more safely and effectively every single day.

If you've followed Luella's journey, you've seen what one rescue can mean. She changed my life. Now I'd love to help SNAR change the lives of hundreds more.

Every donation, no matter the size, brings them one step closer to providing a safer future for the animals who depend on them.

Thank you for considering a gift and for helping support the remarkable people who made Luella's second chance possible.
