Bring Dululu Napanangka home to Country
Donation protected
"We need to bring Dululu Napanangka home. Her spirit is not at rest, and neither are we."
Dululu was a Senior Law Woman, Elder, artist, tracker, and teacher and much more. She lived on her Country her whole life and carried three sacred Dreamings (embodied in her art below), including the Seven Sisters (Pleiades). As a custodian of this Country she looked after the Lupaarn (three rock waterholes), Gillungurra and taught the young girls when they were ready. She painted her stories in the colours of the desert, and her art is deeply respected in Australia and internationally. She also assisted in tracking people missing in the bush. She was, and still is, deeply loved and respected.
In 2019, she was transported for kidney dialysis from her Country in the Kimberleys to Perth. Unfortunately, she was never able to return due to her condition. When she passed, her husband of fifty years held her as she went back to the ancestors.
Due to her long illness, Dululu has been away too long to qualify for return under the patient transport system. Now, unless we act, she may be buried in Perth in an unmarked grave, far from the red dirt of her homeland and her ancestors.
That cannot happen.
Her family live through her teachings. Her children are Tjakamarra and Nakamarra, her grandchildren are Tjungorayi and Nungorayi and great grandchildren are Gubuyuu, strong in spirit and culture. Her name has been passed on to her granddaughter. The time has come to bring her home.
We need to raise funds to:
- Transport Dululu home
- Lay her to rest on Country in line with cultural Law
- Hold proper mourning ceremonies
- Let her spirit, and her family, rest in peace
This fundraiser is about more than cost. It’s about cultural rights, spiritual justice, and the dignity all Elders deserve.
Please give what you can. Share her story. Stand with us.
