A local person noticed a very skinny cat, laying on its side, looking lifeless while flies swarmed him. They didn’t know whether he was alive or possibly dying, so she brought him to us for help.

Upon initial assessment we immediately noticed that Dexter had an extremely swollen paw with a terrible injury to his paw pad. The swelling was so severe & painful that Dexter lost the willingness to walk, eat & live. We cleansed the wound and started him on both pain meds & antibiotics until a vet was able to see him. We feared he may have needed his arm amputated

Today was his vet appointment. X-rays & bloodwork were both required in order for the Dr to determine whether or not his leg was viable. Fortunately, his bone was not affected & amputation was not necessary. However, his bloodwork showed severe infection, so today the Dr sedated Dexter & thoroughly debride his wound & wrapped it. He will remain on antibiotics & pain medication for quite some time, while the infection heals.
