Operation Save Dexter Baby
Donation protected
Hi friend. I never thought I’d be typing this, but here we are! Life is giving me a big opportunity to allow myself to be vulnerable and receive help. This isn’t comfy.
I’ll just cut to the chase- Dexter is in the ICU.
When he didn’t come home for breakfast on Thursday, I know something was wrong. I found him in the neighbors yard- lethargic, dehydrated, sitting in his own urine.
Turns out Dexter had diabetes and we didn’t know. It got exacerbated by an infection, and now he is critically ill. He’s been diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis, pancreatitis, and an infection of unknown origin.
He has to be kept in the pet ICU for 2-4 days. IV fluids, insulin drip, labs, ultrasounds, and very close monitoring.
Anddd guess what! Turns out animal health care is astronomically expensive. Just to begin treatment, they required 6.5k up front. Depending on how he responds, it could come out to be several thousands more.
If you’ve ever met my boys, you know they’re best friends. They’ve been together since kittenhood, and they take care of each other. Dexter is the protector. The cowboy of the land. Always looking out for his family.
Still, Dexter is such a mommas boy. He runs the streets in the day, and comes home for snuggles every night. He means everything to me. I jokingly (not really jokingly) say he’s my lifeblood. He loves when I sing spiritual songs to him (he meows along!). He dies for chin rubbies. He is truly the best part of my life.
What is happening now is my worst nightmare.
The money for this campaign would go directly to paying for his current medical bills and provide this stressed mamma with enormous gratitude.
Peace
