Help bring daycare to our remote town of Mungindi

Donation protected
A group of committed community members from the Mungindi District have formed an association to raise funds for a long daycare facility for children aged 0 to 4 years of age, to be built in our town. This facility will also provide before and after school care for children as well as vocational care.

Mungindi is a true cross border town with its town limits crossing the NSW and QLD state border - one postcode, one community, one name but two states and two local councils. We are definitely unique!

We always do things a little differently in Mungindi – most places have the bricks and mortar but no staff, Mungindi has staff but no bricks and mortar. Via a grant from the Federal Government and through this association, we hope to change this.

Mungindi has an urgent need for childcare to build community resilience. Mungindi is approx. 125km away from the nearest town center and has no public transport.
This community has experienced severe hardship through drought, fires, floods, border closures and remoteness.
An accessible childcare service is an essential component for the Mungindi Community to work
towards long term sustainability and to build resilience when future disasters occur.

Childcare is needed in Mungindi to:
• provide early childhood education to give our children the best opportunity to develop into
happy and healthy people.
• provide opportunities for Aboriginal children to have equal and accessible access to
education and social interaction.
• provide Aboriginal children with quality early childhood education (ECE) and be supported to
embrace their culture and identity for a strong start to lifelong learning.
• provide social interaction for children who can be socially isolated due to the remoteness of
the town.
• enable parents in our community to take up jobs
• provide opportunities for both parents to be active in the workforce and ensure that lack of
childcare is not a barrier for women to take part in employment.
We would greatly appreciate your contribution towards the build of our Daycare Facility which will assist us to attract staff and ensure a quality education for all.

Our goal is to have a facility up and running by the end June 2024 but this is obviously reliant upon us receiving the wonderful support of people like you!
