Please help us bring Dave home.
Starting with a right leg amputation a year and a half ago, David has been dealing with serious medical issues.
Last September, while he was still healing, David was told he needed vein surgery on the left leg to try to save it from amputation as well. A week after the procedure he was hospitalized for an infection in this leg. This started a seven and a half month long rollercoaster ride that consisted of eight hospitalizations with discharge to nursing homes/rehabs in between. He had several bad experiences at the nursing homes, the first one resulting in Septic Shock. He was able to survive this and just when we thought he was on the road to recovery, a serious infection took over his whole thoracic spine. Emergency thoracic spine surgery was performed which almost resulted in loosing his life. The Surgeon said it was a "Hail Mary" as they took him off to surgery. He did make it through but was left paralyzed from his waist down. Back to Nursing Home to recover he went, still on IV antibiotics with the strongest possible one on board. As he was being changed, he was rolled off the bed and was back to hospital with fractured thoracic vertebra and is now in a brace from his waist up to his neck. Dave was hospitalized once again due to bad reaction to the antibiotics. This resulted in stopping the strongest antibiotics and continuing on a milder one. Unfortunately, it is not clearing the infection so they just extended use to 6/6. He will be having an MRI on 6/2 to see the progress. Blood work says it is still there. Dave continues to stay positive, working very hard to regain strength and movement of his upper and lower body. With the use of a hoyer lift, two people are needed to move him safely from the bed to a wheelchair. He is receiving PT and OT at an amazing nursing home, finally able to sit up for brief moments. We are very hopeful that he will continue to improve. Insurance is saying he needs to go home, they will not pay for any more rehab. We need to ready their home for his return by installing a stair lift to 2nd floor, install a roll in shower, get electric wheelchair and a hoyer lift for transfers. Also, Anne will need PCA help with his care as it takes two people to manage the hoyer lift. Family and friends have been asking what they can do to help. We realize everyone has their own things going on but if you could contribute any amount to Dave’s GoFundMe to help us with the medical equipment, we would be ETERNALLY GRATEFUL!!!! His daughter Evi and wife Anne miss him terribly and want him home as it has been almost eight long months!!!!
Please keep Dave, Anne and Evi in your prayers. Thank you for taking the time to read his story and to consider donating.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart...Robin
Message from Annie and Evi:
The last year and a half has been hard, watching the love of my life come close to death multiple times has scarred us emotionally. We are a resilient trio and are staying positive, but I would love to set up Dave’s living space to maximize his quality of life. He has been bed-bound for nearly 8 months and I would be so grateful for any help in our quest to give him access to a better life than he is living right now. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read this and for all the thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Annie and Evi
