Donations are being sought urgently to help the distraught family of the late and much-loved Daniel Butler, from Corduff, Blanchardstown who died suddenly in April, at the age of 39.

Daniel’s widow, Blanca, is currently seriously ill with cancer. Blanca and her three children - Natalie (20) Paul (16) and Aaron (10) have lost a husband and a father, but they have also lost their home following a series of devastating fire last summer.

The story began in early 2023 with Blanca’s diagnosis of life-threatening cancer. In August, the Butler’s family home in Corduff was virtually destroyed by fire following a lightning strike. 8 months later came the devasting death of husband and father, Daniel, following a massive heart attack while the family also fell victim to a financial scam at the same time .
The Story In Detail

Blanca and Daniel Butler had lived happily in Blanchardstown for over 20 years along with their three children - Natalie (20) Paul (16) and Aaron (10. Blanca worked locally as a healthcare assistant for over 18 years before getting sick, while husband Daniel worked in the building trade.

In March 2023, Blanca got a devastating diagnosis of combined brain and lung cancer. Daniel immediately stopped work to care for his seriously ill wife. With no income coming into the home, Blanca’s medical treatment nevertheless got underway.

In August 2023, a freak thunder storm saw the Butler’s home virtually destroyed after an adjoining house was struck by lightning. Unfortunately, the house was not insured.

With Blanca’s treatment continuing into the beginning of 2024, Daniel suffered another devastating blow in March, after a business absconded with a €9,000 deposit he had paid over for new windows and doors. Determined not to burden Blanca with yet more stressful news, Daniel had told no one. Shortly after, he suffered a massive heart attack at home and sadly died some days later on Tuesday 9 April 2024 in the Mater Hospital. Daniel was just 39 years of age.

In yet another devastating revelation, it emerged that the Butlers’ mortgage, which ordinarily would be paid off in the event of the death of a spouse, was not covered by life insurance, and so Blanca still owes the outstanding mortgage balance on their home.

Blanca and her three children Danielle, Paul and Aaron are currently living with Daniel’s dad John but have no way of getting their lives back together. Blanca finds it extremely difficult to walk into their destroyed homeplace and while she feels like giving up, she insists she cannot do that for the sake of her children.
