Bring Comfort to Classrooms with Sock Monkeys
Donation protected
I represent a team of four second grade teachers at a public charter school. We have several students who are working through a lot of social emotional challenges and we want to be able to provide them with a consistent and reliable source of calming when they are in the classroom.
There is a lot of research to support the use of weighted stuffed animals and in looking for options along these lines, we were able to make a connection with a mission-hearted high school student working on a community enhancement project - making weighted sock monkeys. The sock monkeys are all hand-sewn and unique. Each one contains corn which allows us to also put them in a cold space (freezer or refrigerator) if needed.
Our goal is for each 2nd grade student to have their own sock monkey for the year. The monkeys would stay with the teacher year after year, but each year the students in the class would get to adopt and name the own they use for the year. The monkeys will stay in the classroom during non-school hours, but will stay with the students during all times when they are in the classroom. They will be a source of calm and comfort in a non-disruptive way.
The student with whom we have partnered is able to make them for $15/each and we need 70. This is a total of $1,050. This is where the ASK comes in...we need your help to realize our goal! Please consider sharing the love and supporting our kiddos.
