From Chad’s family:

“Facts:
Chad is a diabetic with high blood pressure, a failing kidney, vision loss, and is on dialysis multiple days of the week. He takes several meds to keep moving forward. He has been in and out of the ER more times than I can remember in the last 6 months. Needless to say, his health does not support the ability to hike or even walk a long distance. He was so excited to go camping with his friends. I imagine because this would be doing something that felt “normal” and not house based. His close 2 friends picked him up on Saturday July 12th and planned to be back on Tuesday July 15th at the latest. I was given the news on Monday July 14th at 5:40 pm that he had been missing since early morning. I then relayed the message to family members and we drove up to start aiding in the search that was already being conducted by the Sheriff’s Dept and the search and rescue team. When I arrived, I spoke to the female (I’m not giving names without consent) of these two friends. She showed us where they were camping and told the below story.

Story:
Chad woke them up concerned about a fire and wanting to leave. After telling him there was no fire (or smoke as the male friend indicated was said) Chad told them he wanted to go for a walk. They both said they turned around for a second and he was gone. They mentioned that he went for a walk the day prior and came back within an hour. So at this point they were not worried and waited. After several hours of being gone they called the police.

Questions:
- Could Chad have strayed out of a 2 mile radius (in his health) as this was searched in depth by means of people, drones, helicopters, ATVs, and dogs?

- Or is it possible he is within a 2 mile radius of camp and still not found?

- Did someone passing by give him a ride to a different area of the canyon?

- Did anyone see him Monday morning? If so, what did you observe?

Chad has no phone, no car, no medications (with the exception of an insulin pump), and no personal belongings that were taken with him that morning. All nearby hospitals were called to check for a John Doe and Chad Burningham.

People keep asking “What can I do to help?” I would say: keep looking, keep asking questions, and please just don’t give up. Someone must have seen or knows something.

Thank you to all that have given support via messages, posting/sharing, food, ATVs, drones, and aiding in the search for Chad.

"Tooele County Sheriff’s Office continues search for lost man Chad Burningham

Chad Burningham
The Tooele County Sheriff’s Office received calls around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025, that Chad Burningham, 42, from West Jordan, had gone missing that morning sometime around 8 a.m. from a campsite in Soldier Canyon.

“We got all of our resources out there Monday afternoon, but we weren’t able to locate them,” Sergeant Lerdahl with the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office explained. “We went back out on Tuesday with search and rescue, patrol deputies, tracking dogs, drones, and a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter, but we weren’t able to locate them again. Today [Wednesday], we were back out there with the help of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, who provided a plane. We have extensively searched the area, but unfortunately, we have not located Mr. Burningham.”

Burningham’s last known whereabouts was the Soldier Canyon campsite near Jacob City.

In the TCSO’s Wednesday post on Facebook, they mentioned if anyone traveling through areas near the campsite finds something that may belong to Burningham or point to what may have happened to him, to do two things: do not touch or disturb the item and immediately contact the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center at (435)-882-5600.

“Preserving potential evidence is critical so that trained teams and tracking dogs can be directed effectively,” the post read on Facebook, followed by: “We sincerely thank the public for their continued support, awareness, and cooperation as we remain committed to bringing Chad home.”

This is currently an ongoing investigation, and anyone with information that could lead to Chad being found should contact the number above”
