Help Bring Cesar and Randy Home – Two Asylum Seekers Detained Despite Doing Everything Right
Cesar Alexander Alvarez Perez (21) and Joswar “Randy” Slater Rodriguez Torres (28) came to the U.S. legally through the Venezuelan Humanitarian Parole Program after fleeing unimaginable violence and persecution in Venezuela. Their journey was long, painful, and courageous — they were robbed at gunpoint, slept on roads, and risked everything for safety and freedom.
When Cesar and Randy arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border, they found jobs in Mexico and spent nearly six months visiting the border daily to apply for entry into the United States. Eventually, they were accepted and legally entered the U.S. through the CBP One process, successfully completing credible fear interviews and being granted parole.
They arrived in Spokane, WA with hope and determination, working full-time jobs, attending every immigration check-in, and preparing for their asylum court hearings. They became family to many of us who have sponsored and stood by them every step of the way.
But on June 11th, everything changed.
Cesar and Randy went to a routine ICE check-in — and never came out. They were detained and transferred to a federal detention center in Tacoma with no notice, no warning, and no access to legal counsel or family. This happened despite them following every legal process and having no criminal record.
Now, we fear deportation could be imminent.
They deserve due process. They deserve to be heard. And they deserve to come home.
We’re raising funds to support their legal defense, cover travel and communication costs, and related expenses needed to fight for their release and support them in continuing their journey toward citizenship. Any donation helps — and sends a clear message: we don’t turn our backs on good people who follow the rules.
Please stand with Cesar and Randy. Help us bring them home.
Note: This fundraiser is being organized by Shelly O'Quinn and Sheila Maak in support of Randy and Cesar. There are many other people behind the scenes supporting this effort.
