In early March, our lives were turned upside down in a way we never could have imagined.

Carlos, a devoted husband and loving father of three, was pulled over for allegedly driving just 3 miles over the speed limit. What should have been a simple traffic stop quickly escalated into something far more serious and deeply troubling. In front of his young daughter, Carlos was detained without being read his rights and without being given the opportunity to contact his lawyer.

Despite having the proper documentation to live and work legally in the United States, Carlos was taken into custody. The original reason for his arrest was later dismissed while he was in jail—but instead of being released, the jail contacted ICE, and he was transferred into immigration detention.

Since then, Carlos has remained detained, even after providing proof of his legal status. His family is left in a painful state of uncertainty, waiting and hoping for answers, while navigating a system that has not yet given them justice.

At home, his spouse is doing everything possible to stay strong for their three children. But the emotional toll is overwhelming, and the financial strain is growing heavier each day.
