Hi :)
Firstly, thank you so much for visiting this page dedicated to raising funds for the lives of my dog (Carbone) and cat (Wow wow).
Right now, I need help to bring them to my home in the UK where we can stay together and I can give them a comfortable life as they're getting older!
So any support you can provide is hugely appreciated!!
Carbone and Wow wow, both male, are totally unlike any other dog or cat I have met. After being saved from the streets by their previous owner at delicate young ages, they grew up together at a guesthouse by the beach...
----------Here are their stories...----------
A black puppy was born at the back of a hotel in the garbage area. He began his life rummaging the bins for food with a few of his siblings. This is where my ex-partner, Jojo, met his soon-to-be dog best friend. Jojo stayed at the hotel when he first came to the island looking to set up business for himself, his wife at the time, and their baby son; he brought the puppy food and played with him every day. Later, after finding an area to rent for a guesthouse, Jojo and his wife met the little dog again at the animal rescue shelter on the island when they visited with the intention of getting a dog. The puppy was less than 1 year old and had recently been brought into the shelter; they recognised each other immediately. Jojo's wife was part-Italian, and with their new smart companion, fully black in colour, they named him 'Carbone' - the Italian word for 'charcoal.'
One day, whilst Jojo was riding his motorcycle, he spotted a box of newly born kittens on the side of the road. Most of them had died but there was one still hanging on, in very poor condition. He immediately scooped up the dusty white baby cat and took him straight to the animal hospital at the same shelter. Here, the kitten stayed for almost 3 weeks while the vets worked hard to improve his health and make sure he became well-nourished. A scary start for a baby without its mother! When Jojo could bring the cat home, he introduced the kitten to his baby son who exclaimed "Wow wow!" And so this had to be the now perfectly white kitten's name.
Being raised together, Carbone and Wow wow are like brothers. They love to play together, sleep and relax together, eat together (yes, Carbone shares and even waits for Wow wow to finish eating before seeing what's left!), and walk together. They feel safest together and are immediately there for each other should one encounter some trouble, struggles or worries!
----------How I met Carbone and Wow wow...----------
Jojo and his wife, unfortunately, soon split and 2 years later, I came along to stay at the guesthouse. Falling in love with Jojo, I quickly moved to the island, often travelling to other countries and returning. Never before having pets in my life (but with a deep love for animals!), I also came to love the delightful Carbone and nervous Wow wow.
Growing up at the guesthouse, Carbone loves to be around people. Because of this, he has also learnt how to be around people and read their moods, as well as picked up commands in many different languages!
Meanwhile, Wow wow, with quite the rough start and maybe not so pleasant experience with people (staying in a hospital, being injected, etc.), was always on edge, preferring the high and quiet spots around the guesthouse. If someone came too near, or tried to hold him, he would make a run for it!
I very gradually gained the trust of Wow wow, spending time every day sitting and calling him repeatedly with my hand out, not making any sudden movements. On the contrary, Carbone was already walking with me everywhere I went! After many months, Wow wow started to stick around me more and more, though always keeping a distance of at least 1 metre and still not allowing me to hold him. I remember the first time he climbed onto my lap, totally independently without any coaxing; I sat completely still in amazement and hoping to keep him comfortable.
Though Wow wow will still run or hide with any new sound or loud noise from people, he has become much less timid and even enjoys being near humans, occasionally affectionately rubbing against one's leg or lying underneath one's chair! :)
----------Why we need to raise funds...----------
I have now known Carbone and Wow wow for 8 years; 4 years after my arrival at the guesthouse (during the harsh 'Covid time'), Jojo became terminally ill and passed away soon after receiving his diagnosis. Not only was a great friend gone from my life, but Carbone and Wow wow had lost their saviour. I could not abandon them after taking care of them alongside Jojo for 4 years already. 4 years has since passed now, and I can no longer stay in Thailand.
I have been working online as a freelancer, but with the onset of AI, my work has drastically lessened over the past year, I can no longer afford the visa so I must return to the UK.
As they will both be 10 this year, they need extra care! Wow wow recently had a bout of gingivitis while Carbone's liver function is declining (due to all the breaded burgers and fried chicken he has enjoyed whilst growing up wondering the beachside restaurants!); both now require stricter diets and health routines. Besides this, Carbone suffers itchy skin and hair loss twice a year with seasonal changes, requiring medicine, and Wow wow suffers hair loss should he become stressed, due to too much licking, which makes him more prone to infection and also requires medicine.
They are both well trained and well behaved. We love to be together, they even follow me to the toilet!
I already naturally worry and care about Carbone and Wow wow - I understand they become stressed without me, their main carer, around, and notice how much calmer they both are when we are all together.
----------How your funds will help us...----------
I would like to bring Carbone and Wow wow to the UK so we can all stay together. For this, they would each need some vaccinations, a microchip, tests, and passports, besides flight tickets!
Your financial support would definitely be a great help in making sure Carbone and Wow wow get the care they need, as well as keeping our little family together!
Here's some general costs to give you an idea:
1 kg or 5 kg of dry dog food = approx. £3 or £9
1 kg or 5 kg of dry cat food = approx. £2.50 or £9
1 pack (120 g) or 1 can (400 g) of wet dog food = approx. £1 or £1.80
1 pack (85 g) or 1 can (400 g) of wet cat food = approx. £1.30 or £1.90
1 pack of (healthy) dog treats = approx. £1.50
1 pack of (healthy) cat treats = approx. £1.30
Skin medicine (oral tablets) for Carbone = approx. £25
Skin medicine (topical drops) for Wow wow = approx. £10
Roughly how much they eat: Within 1 week, Carbone will finish 2 kg of dry dog food besides 2-3 cans of wet dog food, while Wow wow will finish 1.5 cans of wet cat food and around 700 g of dry cat food.
The process to take them home includes:
A pet passport = £250 per pet (covering blood tests, microchips, and vaccinations, so approximately £500 in total for both Carbone and Wow wow)
A flight ticket = approx. £400 to £700 each (so £800 - £1400 in total).
Carbone and Wow wow have touched so many hearts already, I'm sure they would quickly affect yours too should you meet them! I wish to provide Carbone and Wow wow as much comfort as possible in their final years.
We would be incredibly grateful for any support. Thank you so much for your time and energy in finding our page and getting to know our story so far! Sending love and light your way :)
