Cap’n Retrovania’s Totally Toxic Pizza-Slingin’ Showdown
A lost 1987 NES classic that never existed… until now.

Welcome to Retrovania Land's Toy Factory!

The Story
It’s Halloween night, 1987, in the neon-drenched, cursed coastal town of Pitchfork Cove, California.

While the town geared up for a radical night of trick-or-treating, pizza, and arcade mayhem, the undead warlord Lord General Dracenstein rose from the depths of his Doom Zone's Fright Fortress—a towering, bat-winged citadel of dripping stone, crackling Tesla coils, and eternal midnight fog perched on the cliffs above the Haunted Boardwalk.

Inside the abandoned horror-movie prop warehouse on the Boardwalk, a mad alchemist-scientist performed the ultimate forbidden experiment: merging the preserved blood of an ancient vampire lord with the reanimated corpse of a toxic-waste-mutated Frankenstein-style monster. The result was Lord General Dracenstein—a stitched-together abomination of aristocratic vampire nobility, brute Frankenstein muscle, and a gnarly werewolf arm tipped with razor-sharp claws.

Alongside his Scream Queen, Lady Baroness Frankenbride, he unleashed a wave of Ecto-Plazm Sludge across Pitchfork Cove, mutating the townspeople into grotesque, bloodthirsty abominations and spawning his monstrous army of Mutantoids.

Now only Cap’n Retrovania and his elite crew of pizza-slingin’ heroes—the Arcade Crypt Commandos (Cap’n Retrovania, Toxic Tommy, Necro Witch, and Kira Kutter Kane)—stand between the town and total toxic doom. It’s up to them to surf, skateboard, and slash their way through Lord General Dracenstein’s nightmare army in this long-lost 8-bit masterpiece.

The Game
Cap’n Retrovania’s Totally Toxic Pizza-Slingin’ Showdown is a full-blown, authentic 8-bit NES horror-splatter co-op beat-’em-up dripping with pure 1987 radness.

The demo will be released on limited-edition physical NES cartridge. All backers receive early access, development updates, and more!

Inspired by Castlevania, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Splatterhouse (with heavy 80s horror practical FX vibes), you’ll battle through 8 massive levels (plus 3 unlockable ones) packed with:

- Side-scrolling action and platforming
- Super attack combos
- Mozzarella whips
- Garlic Bread Grenades
- Crypt Cola Bombs
- Skateboard charges and smashes (including Cap’n Retrovania’s signature Surf-Board)
- Brutal environmental kills

Demo Focus
The upcoming demo shines the spotlight on the massive featured level: Haunted Boardwalk—a sprawling neon nightmare of roller coasters, haunted piers, and slime-soaked boardwalks under the shadow of the Fright Fortress.

Explore these key sub-areas:
- Cap’n Retrovania’s Pizzeria & Arcade
- Romero’s Horror Video
- Re-Animator Comix
- Toyz R Gore

Coded in real 6502 assembly for authentic NES hardware (MMC3 mapper) with a Nintendo Switch port planned. This isn’t a modern retro-inspired game — this is the real deal: pure 8-bit splatter, chiptune terror, and practical-effects-soaked nostalgia.

Our Mission Right Now
We’re launching full development and want to release a playable demo by December 2026.

Your support gets us coding, spriting, composing chiptunes, and testing on real NES hardware so we can bring this gnarly beast to life as fast as possible. This is a pure passion project from a lifelong 80s kid and retro game developer. No corporate BS — just radioactive nostalgia and community-powered retro gaming.

What Your Support Funds
- Core 6502 engine programming and authentic NES optimization
- Pixel art, animations, and grotesque mutant enemy designs
- Killer chiptune soundtrack and gory sound effects
- Playtesting, bug fixing, and real hardware compatibility
- Early demo release for backers and the Retro Squad

No fancy rewards needed. This is straight-up support for a lost ’87 NES gem. Backers will receive early access to updates, dev logs, and the demo as soon as it’s ready. The finished game will be released for everyone on NES cartridges and Nintendo Switch.
