Help get Brian home to his family

Brian Durm was recently in Cancun, Mexico when he injured himself in a critical accident . While on vacation with his wife Kristin, Brian fell, causing a tremendous amount of trauma to his head, lungs, spinal column as well as breaking his arm.  The damage to Brian’s head is quit severe, so much so that he needed the pressure drained from brain to survive. His left orbital bone is completely fractured and there is fear of him losing his vision.

Brian spent a week in a hospital in Cancun until he was able to be Medevacked home to Indianapolis. Right now Brian is in the fight of his life in the Neurological ICU unit, fighting to be able to rejoin his family and friends and resume a normal life. Brian has shown some improvement with the swelling reduced around his face but his recovery will be extremely long.

If you have ever had the chance to meet Brian you know he is a great person. He does everything he can for his family and friends. Brian’s personality is so outgoing that he immediately draws people in. He is completely devoted to his family and friends and would constantly be on the run going from place to place doing activities with family and friends. I have never met anyone that has had a negative thing to say about Brian Durm. Brian is the crazy, adventurous, fun loving guy he appears to be on the outside, but one of the most caring people on the inside. He loves his wife Kristin and their 3 kids Hailey, Landon, and Liam more than anything in this world. He will do everything he can to get back to them.

Brian always wanted to improve things for those around him; he recently ran for school board, his debate was right before his vacation, while this may seem like something no one in their 30’s would enjoy, Brian wanted to do this to help his kids as well as the kids in his district. Now more than ever we need to help him and those around him. Kristin has been a rock so far, trying to arrange as much as possible from a foreign country, with a foreign language, you can imagine the stress that would cause anyone. This is going to be a marathon and not a sprint to recover, and no matter what long term damage is there, his family and friends will fight for him. This is also going to be a costly fight, with medical bills, rehab, surgeries, time off work, and we need to help them. With any donations, no matter how big or large, we can show Brian and his family how much he means to us. No amount of money will show the appreciation we have for Brian but it will show the family how much he is loved. All funds raised will be given to the Durm family for medical bills and related expenses.

Brian is more than my coworker his is also my best friend. I am so lucky to have a job I love, work with great people, and friends, but most of all getting to work with my best friend who sits two cubes away is a true blessing. When I started in the department both Brian and I work in we immediately hit it off and have been friends ever since. We have worked on projects together, partied together, vacationed together with our families, and our families have become one family over time . This weekend we were supposed to go camping together and spend time with our families hiking around Shades State Park, roasting marshmallows, playing games, riding bikes, and hanging out but right now my buddy is sitting in a hospital bed fighting for his life. Lets help him get through this together.

While a lot of us from work have already shared our favorite memories and pictures of Brian with Kristin, if you would like to reach out to the family, we have set up an email to show support for Brian, Kristin, Hailey, Landon, and Liam at [email redacted]
