I am asking for your support for our intrepid, brave and multi-talented artists and creative activists. I am asking for your donation to Breaking Walls, the youth empowerment movement guiding these young men and women to discover their voices, while simultaneously offering them a platform on which to share them as a creative collective.
I’m Fran Tarr, and each hour of every day since eight young men and women from Bethlehem, Palestine, and Brooklyn, NY inspired me to plant the seeds that would become Breaking Walls, Inc. - young people across the globe, through their words, their resiliency, their passion to transform themselves, their communities and our world inspire me to be stronger, more honest and transparent, essentially my better self.
I am blessed, privileged to collaborate with and guide each and every young person who enters our ever-expanding global family as we explore the things we share in common, and celebrate the things that make us unique.
While Breaking Walls is getting used to staying connected digitally during these uncertain times, many of our most vulnerable Artists and Ambassadors are unable to reach out to anyone. Due to this, we are trying our best to reach out to them using every resource possible, dedicated to maintaining the safe zone Breaking Walls provides. This effort reminds us every day that the arts are a vital delivery system of hope, able to clear a direct path to our hearts while still feeling human and connected.
Maintaining Breaking Walls’ safe zone, both emotionally and physically, led us to postpone our 2020 Bucharest Summit until July 2021. The health of our Artists, Ambassadors, staff, and partners is imperative to us especially during this time of crisis. However, in its place, we will be hosting an eight-day virtual International Artist Cooperative. This Cooperative will be open to every Breaking Walls participant in Barcelona, Berlin, Bethlehem, Brooklyn, Cape Town, Detroit, Santiago, Tangier, Warsaw, and yes - Bucharest!
Our vision is to utilize Zoom to host workshops on ensemble-building, peacemaking, and creative writing while offering break-out sessions in which our participants’ writings are mentored by an expert artist or performer into a vocal, dance/movement, visual art, spoken word or monologue piece. As always, a culminating performance and talk-back crafted from these pieces will be streamed live across the globe.
