Hi, my name is Rachel Boller, little sister to Rebekah Boller. Last Sunday, October 10th, Rebekah was the passenger in a major vehicle collision. The car she was riding in was t-boned on her side and she was ejected through the front windshield of the vehicle.
She was unconscious and bleeding out when first responders arrived on scene and was transported to the nearest hospital where she was immediately taken into the OR due to nature of her critical injuries.
Since then, she remains in ICU, sedated and on a ventilator as more diagnostic testing and imaging is taken to uncover the full extent of her injuries.
In addition to significant lacerations all over her face and body, she has sustained multiple breaks and fractures (back, pelvis and more) that will require extensive surgery to correct.
On Monday, October 11th, Bekah underwent surgery to repair her sacral fracture to stabilize her lower back and pelvic region for future surgeries.
She also sustained a burst fracture of her T11/T12 vertebrae. As a result, she will undergo a spinal fusion surgery on Thursday, October 14th.
She remains heavily sedated and intubated; however, we are hopeful that after surgery they will be able to remove her mechanical ventilation and ease up on the sedation so that we can do a more thorough neurological assessment.
She will require additional surgeries for a shattered ankle, wrist, and knee once she becomes more stable.
If all goes well, she is expected to remain in Surgical ICU over the next two weeks before transitioning to a less critical setting. From there, she will begin intense inpatient physical therapy to rehab her body and mind.
Though her injuries are extensive, she is a living miracle as she did not sustain any head trauma that we know of and has so far shown positive neurological signs as sedation has been weaned.
There has already been such an outpouring of love and support from close friends, family, and coworkers alike who have all asked “What can we do to help?”
Like many young adults, Rebekah has health insurance but does not have any short-term or long-term disability insurance. There will be extensive costs from her hospital stay and rehab costs that insurance may not cover. We are also unsure what additional mobility or at home rehabilitation equipment she might require upon discharge.
With a complete loss of income, and our mom leaving her job to be at her side, we are raising funds to help reduce the financial impact of this traumatic event.
If you know Rebekah, you know her generosity and fighting spirit. She would give you the shirt off her back and is the first person to stick up for the people she loves. We are thankful to God that she is still with us and we look forward to sharing more as we navigate through this emotional ordeal. Thank you for your generosity, our family appreciates your support during this difficult time. ❤️
