11pm Thursday:

Bazz has landed safely back in the UK and is now being admitted into ICU.

2.30pm Thursday:

PLEASE DO NOT STOP SHARING AND DONATING. THE FINAL BILL STANDS AT £87,000.

A little later than promised and Bazz has set off with the flying doctors and Janie will head off soon after for her flight to Manchester. Huge relief all round to know he's on the way home now.

1pm Thursday:

Bazz continues to be in a great deal of pain. He's also pretty confused. But knowing that he is going to be in an ICU in Scotland tonight is helping a lot.

Janie is so grateful to every single person who has donated and shared. We all are.

Bazz is being collected in the next hour and due to arrive back in the UK around 8.30pm tonight.

11pm Wednesday:
Confirmation that a medical repatriation flight for tomorrow has been booked for Bazz came through earlier. Janie has been advised that she is not permitted to travel with him and has made arrangements to fly home via Manchester.

The final bill for the clinic in Cape Verde is £8,500 and the money raised in the past 24 hours is almost enough to cover that. We are so grateful to each and every one of you who has made a contribution so far. We continue to keep this page open because sadly, that's just a drop in the ocean when it comes to the bill for the medevac flight (see below).

We are so relieved that Bazz will be home tomorrow and able to get the tests and (hopefully treatment) required.

Keep sharing this and we will continue to share updates as we have them.

Thank you

Update: message from Janie: "Last night he became increasingly dizzy and was hallucinating. This morning he seemed a little better and was able to eat a little, but now although he has been given medication to try to reduce the pressure on his brain he is in a lot of pain and desperate to get home. We’re both very scared."

Bazz's condition seems to be getting worse and the staff in Cape Verde have agreed they cannot do anything more for him there.

Medical repatriation cost has been set as £80,789.95. Bazz would be brought to an ICU, hopefully in Edinburgh. The earliest this can happen is tomorrow. In the meantime, he is being looked after as well as the facilities allow. Medical fees for the clinic will also have to be settled before departure. We do not currently know those costs but estimate £8-10,000.

Hi, my name is Clare and I'm fundraising for my friends Bazz and Janie.

Last week they went away for a week's holiday in Cape Verde. Less than 24 hours after arriving, Bazz was rushed to hospital with horrendous head pains and no feeling down his right side. He has had one CT scan and is awaiting another but diagnosis has not been made. The medical team do not think he is fit to fly. He is awaiting one further scan.

Bazz cannot currently walk or stand unassisted. He cannot currently use his right arm. He has significantly impaired vision and continues to experience severe pain.

To add to this horrendous situation, it turns out that the wrong type of travel insurance was purchased and they are not covered.

Bazz and Janie are stuck. They do not have the funds to pay the bills for the hospital and they do not know how to get home without funds to pay. Right now they are facing two options: stay for treatment (duration and costs unknown) or medical repatriation with an air ambulance (£67k). They cannot leave the hospital without paying the bills incurred so far (currently running at £6k).

This is a developing situation and I am trying everything I can from the UK to help them.

I am asking for your help to raise money to help Bazz and Janie pay the medical costs and return to the UK. They are both really stressed and really frightened.
