Last October, I rescued my kitten from a construction site. He was tiny, scared, and alone, and I took him in so he could get the medical care he needed. Despite my best efforts to find him a home, no one stepped forward and over time, he became part of my family. I officially adopted him, never imagining how much love and joy he would bring into my life.
A year later, everything changed overnight. I found him straining and crying as he tried to urinate outside his litter box. I rushed him to an emergency hospital, where he was diagnosed with a urinary blockage, a life-threatening condition. He was hospitalized for three days and treated with a urinary catheter. The veterinarian recommended that he undergo perineal urethrostomy (PU) surgery, assuring me it would prevent future blockages and be the most financially sound long-term option.
Unfortunately, his recovery has been far more complicated than expected. Within days of the surgery, he suffered another blockage and had to be re-hospitalized and unblocked by the same surgeon. Ten days later, his incision site closed too quickly, once again preventing him from urinating. He needed another corrective procedure and just ten days after that, he became blocked again.
At that point, I brought him to the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan, desperate to get him the best care possible. He has now been under anesthesia and heavily medicated four separate times. I have already accumulated $10,000 in medical debt, and the current estimate from AMC is an additional $12,000 for hospitalization, catheterization, and a revision surgery.
My cat means the world to me. I have done everything in my power to help him heal and give him the chance at a healthy, happy life but I’ve reached the end of my financial ability to continue his care on my own. Please consider being part of his journey so he can have a chance to recover and live the life he deserves. Any amount, small or large, will go towards his final medical bill.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read our story and consider helping us during this incredibly difficult time.
