Dear friends of Historic Marine Education, Inc., the USS Constitution’s 1812 Marine Guard.
This is the Chambers volley fire gun. It was a very unusual weapon aboard the USS Constitution during the War of 1812. It had seven barrels, and each barrel was loaded with 32 musket balls and powder cartridges loaded in series. When you pulled the trigger, all seven barrels would begin to fire their string of musket balls in succession. All seven barrels would fire simultaneously. You would get a volley of musket balls fired over a period of a minute or so. It was designed to sweep the enemy’s deck prior to boarding.
We are aware of only two remaining weapons in existence. Fortunately, we were able to have a set of measured drawings made from one of them.
We have an opportunity to have a replica made, but we need your help.
We are not a very wealthy non-profit, and this replica will cost us several thousand dollars.
Please consider making a donation to fund this project. Your donation will help us add to our educational program and continue to bring our history and heritage to the public.
Help bring this unique piece back to the Boston Navy Yard and USS Constitution, today.
Thank you!
