Kitty is an intelligent, beautiful young lady from Treasure Beach, Jamaica. But Kitty has been hiding her smile.
The vibrant 16 year-old has been diagnosed with Ameloblastoma, a rare and fast-growing tumor in her jaw which has left her with a swollen, misshapen face and in a great deal of pain, both physical and emotional.
Her mother, Evelyn Cordiel is my dear friend and is well-known in the community for being a rock-solid, hard-working, generous person. But as a single Mom of two, the funds needed for this surgery are out of reach. Treatment will involve removing the section of her jaw that is affected, as well as all the affected teeth, then reconstructing her jaw and replacing the teeth with implants.
With the onset of the Covid19 pandemic, tourism to Jamaica has come to a sudden and immediate halt. Evelyn was forced to close her small business, leaving her without income for the foreseeable future. But Kitty's tumor is growing rapidly and the doctor is urging the family to take quick action to repair the damage being done to Kitty's jaw.
It is my hope that those of us who know Evelyn, or are moved by her situation, can support her in her time of need and relieve some of the financial burden, allowing for immediate treatment for Kitty. It is hard to ask at a time when so many are struggling. But perhaps by coming together as we are able, we can collectively help our friend.
*All funds will be received by me and transferred directly to Evelyn to pay Kitty's medical costs.*
